1.2- Tribe Myrteae + Overview Tribe Myrteae DC. is a tribe in Subfamily Myrtoideae, family Myrtaceae of order Myrtales. + Characteristics The taxonomy of Myrteae, the most species-rich tribe of Myrtaceae, is notoriously difficult. Although the understanding of the phylogeny has improved, the morphological characteristics that support its cladistic configuration are still unknown. The objective of the Myrteae phylogeny project is to clarify internal relationships within the tribe and to provide a phylogenetic hypothesis for evolutionary relationships between as many as possible of the 48 -53 genera recognised within it. These studies rely on collaboration between the University of São Paulo (Brazil), the University of Otago (New Zealand), RBG Sydney (Australia), and RBG Kew.
